I’ve been in sales for the last six years, a world that brought more into my life than I could have ever imagined. My mentor brought me up to Squamish to help him start Squamish Motorsports before it was what we know it as now. Several years went by, and I was making great money—at one point, I even considered myself ‘semi-retired’ because I had the luxury of free time. But after one of my best months in sales, I found myself feeling empty. The feeling of indirectly taking from others just so I could hit my sales targets wasn’t sitting right with my spirit.
I spoke to God. I said, “Lord, please, give me a means to reach people for the better. Give me an avenue, a tool, a way to help.”
Then, a voice, loud and clear in my head, spoke two words: “Tour BC.”
I searched the domain, and sure enough, “TourBC.ca” was available. I quadruple-checked the name, honestly not believing my eyes. How had no one bought this? If you believe in the Law of Attraction, you will understand… it was always there for me, waiting for when I was ready to receive it with pure, good intentions.
After about a year of negotiation with the government, I finally incorporated the company—TourBC.ca™ Ecotourism Limited. Many people congratulated me, and while I’m honoured to be the vessel for this, I knew it was meant for other people.
I had this internal battle about what to do with the vision, because I was afraid people would think we were trying to sell the culture. Then, the Great Spirit spoke to me again: “This is your spiritual obligation. People are going to come here no matter what. This gives you the opportunity to teach them and show them the ways of Indigenous culture.”
I went to my Elder to get his permission, reassurance, and blessing. He said, “These ways are not ours to keep. They are for everyone.”
That was the answer. That was the message I needed to share.
For us, “Land Back” is not just about a movement to reclaim what was lost—it’s about a movement to decolonize our minds and reconnect with the Earth in the way we all once knew how. It’s a call to connect with Mother Earth, to cherish her, and to protect her. We believe everyone has ancestral roots that tie them to the land, and it is this shared connection we seek to awaken. Our goal is to break the painful cycles of history and create a new one based on unity and respect.
TourBC.ca™ is a way to connect cultures with sustainable tourism. It’s about giving back. One of our founding principles is, “Come with an open mind, leave with a full heart.” We strive to create an impact that is not only felt today but that lasts for generations. This is about sovereignty, sustainability, and self-determination for everyone.
